| Toyota Motor Corp. has issued a safety notice to owners of affected 2004 through early 2006 model year Prius vehicles. According to Toyota, a portion of the steering shaft assembly can become loose or cracked if tires hit curbs or the steering wheel is forcefully locked at low speed because of its insufficient strength. The steering shaft assembly connects the steering wheel to the steering gear box. Bill Kwong, Toyota??™s production communication administrator, said drivers could lose steering control under extreme cases.
